SPEAKER
Mary Lee Vance, PhD, is the director of the Center for Academic Advising and Disability Resources at the University of Wisconsin - Superior. Her doctorate is in Higher Education Administration from Michigan State University. She is currently at work editing an AHEAD Disability Services compendium. She has presented nationally and internationally on a variety of higher education topics. Among her many accomplishments:
- She lead edited the 2009 NACADA publication Advising Students with Disabilities: Striving for Universal Success
- Served as editor for the 2007 AHEAD published the anthology DISABLED Faculty and Staff in a Disabling Society: Multiple Perspectives in Higher Education
- Drafted script for the AHEAD brochure Advising Students with Disabilities
- Been engaged in AHEAD sponsored scholarly national research related to wounded warriors, and has published as well as presented widely on this topic. The special issue of the AHEAD JPED (refereed journal) on Wounded Warriors features two articles she co-wrote.
- She currently serves on the Practice Brief Review Board for the AHEAD JPED as well as on the AHEAD Board of Directors.
- She is a NACADA Journal reviewer and a NACADA consultant for disability and cultural diversity topics.
- Most recently she was elected to serve as co-chair for the NASPA Disability Knowledge Community.
