SPEAKER
Betsy McCalla-Wriggins is Director Emeritus of the Career and Academic Planning Center at Rowan University in Glassboro, NJ. Betsy has over 30 years of experience in Career Services with 18 years of responsibility for both Career Services and Academic Advising. In 1992, Betsy initiated the discussions for and then facilitated the creation of the fully integrated CAP Center. The center continues to provide academic and career advising for undeclared and change of major students as well as career and job search strategy advising for all students and alumni.
- Betsy consults, publishes, and presents nationally on topics related to Academic and Career Advising. Most recently, she co-authored two chapters in and co-edited The Handbook of Career Advising published in 2009 by the National Academic Advising Association (NACADA) and Jossey-Bass. She also co-edited Academic Advising: New Insights for Teaching and Learning in the First Year published by The National Resource Center for The First-Year Experience and Students in Transition.
- Her most recent presentations include a NACADA Webinar on Career Advising in Action: Try It and Apply It, pre-conference workshops at NACADA Annual Conferences on Integrating Career and Academic Advising: From Theory to Practice and pre-conference workshops on Academic and Career Advising: Focus on the First Year at the Annual Conferences on the First Year Experience. Betsy was also one of three panelists for a National Teleconference on Academic and Career Advising: Keys to Student Success sponsored by The National Resource Center for The First-Year Experience and Students in Transition.
- Betsy served as President of NACADA from 2001-2003. During her presidency, she facilitated a total reorganization of the association which has lead to significant increases in both membership and services. In October of 2010, Betsy will receive the Virginia N. Gordon Award for Excellence in the Field of Advising which recognizes a NACADA member who has made significant contributions to the field of advising.
